Employee Portal for Dewatering Service
Duration: April - June 2023
Role: UX/UI Designer
Complex Jobs made simple
This client provides dewatering services around the state of MI. In designing this product, we brought together three pivotal components: a seamless time entry system, an intuitive job management interface, and a robust well logs repository.
Time Entry
A responsive module that will allow employees to enter time and view timecards. Permissions are based on User Roles. Users are able to enter time for themselves or for their entire crew if they are Foreman or Project Managers. Certain users can view all time entries. They can set filters and export when necessary.
Jobs
A responsive module that allows employees to view either all jobs or those assigned to them based on their User Roles. Each job has tabs to add more information from the field. Certain users can view all jobs, filter them and export them.
Well Logs
A desktop-only module that allows users to view a running list of all wells dug. The list includes wells from all jobs. Users cannot add, edit, or delete wells in this module, this only occurs in the job module. This module includes general search and filters to allow users to customize the list of wells. Users can export the list based on the selected filters.
Understanding user needs
As mentioned in the descriptions for each module, there were several different types of users identified in the discovery process. Many users shared requirements and needs, but it was vital to understand each of the seven user types. We created user types, with requirement notes to help better understand what was needed for the build, and what was within scope.
Responsive Design
Many of the users would be using the portal while on the job, and therefore a responsive design was necessary. Jobs and time entry specifically were very crucial to the mobile experience, as for many of the users this would be the only interaction with the portal. The mobile designs had to fit a lot of complexity into a small area, without sacrificing any of the important information. Users can finally manage jobs and add time on the go, making working out in the field much easier.
Streamlining the process
With the development of the new time entry, job management, and well logs modules, employees can spend more time on-site and less time with documentation. The implementation of this custom design tool has brought immeasurable value to the client. By streamlining the time-consuming aspects of documentation and administrative tasks, the teams now have the precious gift of time – time to channel their expertise into the jobs that demand their full attention.
